PFA Scotland thank departing Management Committee members

PFA Scotland would like to extend its sincere thanks to three valued members of our Management Committee – Tessel Middag, Joe Shaughnessy, and Jack MacKenzie – who step down from their roles this summer as they embark on exciting new chapters in their professional careers.

All three players have made a strong contribution to the union and the development of the players management committee; balancing their on-field responsibilities with a strong commitment to supporting the rights and welfare of their fellow players through their work with PFA Scotland.

Tessel Middag departs for New Zealand to join Wellington Phoenix in the A-League Women following a successful spell with Rangers. Since arriving in Scotland in 2022, Tessel played a pivotal role in the club’s domestic campaigns, lifting six trophies across four seasons. Off the pitch, her presence on the Management Committee brought an important voice to the women’s game, and her advocacy for equality and player support has certainly made a big impact.

Joe Shaughnessy also leaves Scotland to go Down Under, securing a move to the A-League Men after signing with Newcastle Jets. A seasoned centre-back with over a decade of experience in Scottish football, Joe captained both St Mirren and Dundee, leading by example with his consistency, composure, and leadership. His voice on the Committee reflected a clear understanding of the game’s demands and a deep commitment to supporting players across all levels of the SPFL.

Jack MacKenzie, who has joined English Championship side Plymouth Argyle, leaves Aberdeen having progressed through the ranks at Pittodrie. The 25-year-old defender made 124 first-team appearances for the Dons and was part of the side that ended a 35 year wait for the Scottish Cup, after their victory at Hampden last month. Jack’s contribution to the Management Committee reflected a grounded, forward-thinking approach and a clear passion for representing the next generation of Scottish professionals.

PFA Scotland CEO Fraser Wishart said:
“We are extremely grateful to Tess, Joe, and Jack for the time, energy, and insight they brought to the Management Committee. Their willingness to stand up for their peers and engage in the wider issues affecting our game has been hugely appreciated. We wish them every success in their next steps and know they’ll continue to be strong advocates for the players wherever their careers take them.”
