PFA Scotland’s inaugural Pre-Season Camp has been extended following an overwhelmingly positive response from members, allowing players to continue benefiting from a professional training environment as they prepare for the season ahead.
Originally scheduled to run for three weeks, the camp has welcomed more than 30 professional players since its launch, providing those currently between clubs with the opportunity to maintain their fitness, sharpness and professionalism in a structured, full-time environment.
Delivered by experienced coaching staff, the programme replicates the standards of a professional football club, with players benefiting from strength and conditioning, sports massage, recovery support, daily catering and ongoing performance feedback.
The decision to extend the camp reflects both the high level of player engagement and PFA Scotland’s continued commitment to supporting members throughout every stage of their careers.
Craig Beattie, PFA Scotland’s Player Relations Officer, has been leading on the camp and has highlighted the positive impact so far.
“We want the players to improve their fitness and conditioning, but we also want them to feel part of something. We want them to have a positive wellbeing experience when they come here.”
“The players are leaving at the end of the day saying, ‘I can’t wait to come back tomorrow,’ and that’s a huge bonus.”
PFA Scotland Chief Executive Fraser Wishart believes the camp has delivered exactly what it set out to achieve.
“We wanted to provide that cushion for players who are still looking for a club. When that trial comes or that phone call comes, we want them to be ready, and this camp helps make sure they’re well prepared.”
Wishart also praised the quality of the environment that has been created, recognising the work of the staff involved in delivering the programme, as well as the dynamic across the training squad.
“One of the most important things is getting the detail right. It’s the support, the sports science and the physiotherapy.
“The camp gives the players structure and an opportunity to train every day. There are experienced professionals here showing leadership to the younger players as well, and that’s invaluable.”
The extension also reflects PFA Scotland’s wider ambition to continue investing in meaningful services that directly benefit members both on and off the pitch.
