LEAGUE 1 TEAM OF THE YEAR

PFA Scotland are delighted to announce the League 1 Team of the Year for 2025/26, supported by MD Electrical Contractors.

The Team of the Year is voted by fellow professionals across the League 1, with players given the opportunity to choose an XI in a 4-3-3 formation. This season’s team features representatives from six clubs.

Goalkeeper

Darren Jamieson (Stenhousemuir)

Stenny stopper Jamieson has been voted as League One’s best goalkeeper. With an impressive 16 clean sheets in 33 appearances, Jamieson has proved crucial to the Warriors promotion push.

Defender

Charlie Dewar (Alloa Athletic)

The 19-year-old defender moved to Alloa on loan Dundee United for a second season and has been a standout for the Wasps. Players across the division have recognised Dewar’s talents as he’s been selected in the Team of the Year for the first time.

Daniel Devine (Inverness Caledonian Thistle)

It’s a Team of the Year nomination in consecutive season for the Caley Jag’s Devine. The experienced defender has been a key cog in Scott Kellacher’s side as they aim to return to the second tier.

Gregor Buchanan (Stenhousemuir)

Stenhousemuir captain Buchanan continues to go from strength to strength as the Warriors aim to make history. After winning League Two Player of the Year in 2024, Buchanan is nominated for his third successive Team of the Year.

Remi Savage (Inverness Caledonian Thistle)

In his second season in the Highlands, Remi Savage has made a big impact in the Caley Jag’s climb to the summit. Contributing to the club’s 17 clean sheets, nobody has a sturdier defence than Inverness in the third tier.

Midfielder

Reece Lyon (Queen of the South)

The Doonhamers midfielder has came up with some big moments, so far this season. With 9 goals and 4 assists in the league, Lyon has shown incredible consistency as his side continue their promotion push.

Alfie Stewart (Inverness Caledonian Thistle)

Enjoying his second spell on loan in Inverness, Alfie Stewart has been in special form for the Caley Jags. Producing 6 goals and 5 assists from midfield, the 19-year-old has been a big influence in taking Kellacher’s side back to the top of the division.

Callum Burnside (Alloa Athletic)

Joining as part of the co-operation agreement between Rangers and Alloa Athletic, Burnside has been a standout for Andy Graham’s men. The Northern Ireland youth international has 9 goals and 3 assists and will be expected to continue that form as Alloa look to secure a play-off spot.

Forward

Kieran Shanks (Peterhead)

The Blue Toon have continued to impress after winning League 2 last season and Shanks has been a big part of that. After a Team of the Year spot last season, the striker has 17 goals so far this season and has been voted as one of the division’s top forwards by his peers.

Oliver Shaw (Hamilton Academical)

The top goal scorer in League 1, Shaw continues to be pivotal to Hamilton’s fight for survival in the third tier. Clinical in the final third, Shaw’s talents have been recognised by opponents across League 1.

Ross Taylor (Stenhousemuir)

The third Stenhousemuir player in this season’s Team of the Year is their top scorer, who has nine goals in the league in 25/26. An integral part of Gary Naysmith’s team, Taylor has shown consistent form across the season.
