PFA Scotland is seeking an exceptional individual as Player Support Officer to lead and develop support services that help players thrive both on and off the pitch. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate, credible and people-focused professional to play a vital role within Scottish football, supporting players throughout every stage of their career.

About the Role

As Wellbeing Officer, you will be at the heart of player support, delivering practical wellbeing services while shaping the future of wellbeing provision across the professional game. Working closely with players, clubs, healthcare providers and key football stakeholders, you will develop innovative programmes, provide trusted support, and champion positive mental health and wellbeing initiatives.

This role combines hands on player engagement with strategic leadership, giving you the opportunity to influence meaningful change across Scottish football.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who understands the realities of professional football and can build trust with players at all levels of the game.

You will bring:

  • Strong experience and knowledge of professional football environments, with an understanding of the culture, pressures and challenges faced by players.
  • Experience in wellbeing, mental health, player care or welfare services, including assessing needs, providing short-term support and managing referrals.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, professional boundaries and risk management, with the confidence to respond appropriately in challenging situations.
  • Experience developing and delivering wellbeing strategies, education programmes, awareness campaigns and support initiatives.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across clubs, charities, healthcare organisations and football stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, capable of delivering engaging workshops to both academy and senior professional players.
  • Strong project management capabilities, with experience turning ideas into impactful programmes and member benefits.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, helping to create positive environments throughout the game.
