PFA Scotland have teamed up with Peter Vardy to launch the 2021 Player of the Year Awards.
Due to the on-going Coronavirus restrictions, for the second year-in-a-row we are unable to hold our annual Awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel.
However, as the new official car partner of the players’ union, Peter Vardy have offered to assist with the safe delivery of the trophies to the winners – which will be announced later this week.
Fraser Wishart, Chief Executive of PFA Scotland, said: “At the end of what has been a very challenging season, it feels good to be able to acknowledge and celebrate the players achievements. It is disappointing we can’t all be together as normal to honour the winners, but we are really grateful to Peter Vardy for stepping in to help out. It is the perfect way to kick-off our partnership and we know the trophies will be in safe hands.
“Being crowned PFA Scotland Player of the Year carries huge prestige for the recipients as it is voted for by their peers, who play against them every week. That is why, having taken the difficult decision to cancel last year’s Awards, we wanted to do everything we could to ensure this season’s went ahead in some shape or form.
“To comply with social distancing, we created a fully digital voting form which was sent out via club reps to the players WhatsApp group chats and, as always, voted in great numbers. Everyone is looking forward to the winners being revealed.”
Euan Cameron Marketing Director at Peter Vardy said “As a Scottish family business we are delighted to become the official vehicle partner of PFA Scotland and we are especially pleased to announce it in conjunction with the Player of the Year awards. We look forward to help delivering the awards to the players once the winners are revealed.”
Over the course of the next four days, we will release the Player of the Year nominees for the following categories:
- PFA Scotland Premiership Player of the Year (Tuesday 11th May)
- PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year (Wednesday 12th May)
- PFA Scotland Championship Player of the Year (Thursday 13th May)
- GMB Scotland Manager of the Year (Friday 14th May)
The overall winners will be announced on Sunday 16th May, along with the Premiership and Championship Teams of the Year.
Having consulted at length with players in League 1&2, the consensus was reached not to have a Player of the Year vote in those leagues for a variety of reasons, including the stop-start nature of their season.
