PFA Scotland is delighted to announce Liam Craig as our new Chairman.
The St Johnstone midfielder, who picks up the reigns from John Rankin, was voted in to the role by the new look Management Committee at last month’s meeting.
He will be assisted by vice-chairs Michael Devlin (Aberdeen) and Chris Higgins (Ayr United) as the Union looks to grow and give players a greater voice in Scottish Football.
Liam said: “I am delighted to be voted in as the new PFA Scotland chairman. Having been on the Management Committee for the previous five years it seems like a natural progression and an opportunity I am very much looking forward to.
“I would like to thank my predecessor John Rankin for all his hard work and commitment during his time as Chairman.
“The Management Committee have decided to change the structure from previous years and have appointed two vice-chairmen. I am delighted that Michael Devlin and Chris Higgins have agreed to take up these positions.
“Michael, Chris, the Management Committee and myself feel that this new set-up will make the Union stronger and more transparent moving forward.
“I am looking forward to working closely with everyone at PFA Scotland, driving our game forward in a positive manner to help all members reach their potential.”
Working along with Liam, Michael and Chris on the Management Committee are David Gray (Hibernian), Sean Murdoch (Dunfermline), Iain Flannigan (Alloa), Sean Crighton (Airdrieonians), Scott Linton (East Fife), Craig Barr (Dumbarton), Andrew Steeves (Montrose) and Scott Brown (Peterhead).
PFA Scotland Chief Executive Fraser Wishart welcomed the election of Liam and his vice-chairmen: “The role of the Management Committee and Chairman is vitally important to the governance of the Union. PFA Scotland exists to represent and protect our members and the Management Committee is elected to run the organisation on their behalf.
“The Management Committee decided to elect a senior management team, with the Chairman supported by two vice chairmen. It is important that those in elected positions are respected by their fellow professionals and I am delighted that Liam Craig is the new chair with Michael Devlin and Chris Higgins as vice chairs. I will be speaking with them on a regular basis for guidance and assistance.
“As CEO, I am accountable and report to the Management Committee who help lead on policy and major decisions taken by the Union.
“I have received terrific support over the years from previous chairmen and knowing Liam as I do, I know that he will play a prominent role in leading the Union as we move forward.”
