The following statement is sent out on behalf of the Scottish Women’s National Team after recent negotiations with the SFA.
Please note that there will be NO further statement on the matter from the players or PFA Scotland.
Scottish Women’s National Team Statement:
“This is an historic moment as it is the first ever collective agreement between the Scottish Women’s National Team and the SFA and is a major step towards achieving equality and parity between the Men’s and Women’s game at all levels.
“As a team, and individuals, we are looking forward to working closely with the SFA to promote and develop Women’s football in Scotland and ensure we are all moving in the same direction.
“The players fully accept we have a responsibility to perform to our best for our country on the pitch, but also to be the best role models we can off it. For many years’ we have worked hard to do so, especially at grassroots level where we are honoured to be asked to engage with young female players at every age and stage of the footballing pathway.
“We want to create a legacy to hand on to the next generation of female players and ensure there is a full and proper commitment by the governing body to promoting the women’s game at grassroots and national level. We want to encourage young girls to participate in sport, especially football – the game we, and the nation, love.
“We can now look forward with great excitement to representing our country at Euro 2017, Scotland's first appearance at a major senior tournament in almost 20 years, and we hope the entire country will get behind us.
“Finally, we would like to thank PFA Scotland for their unwavering support throughout the last few weeks and we look forward to working with the union in the future.”
