PFA Scotland Player and Young Player of the Year Nominees
Last updated: 4.39pm, Wednesday 1st May 2019
PFA Scotland is delighted to announce the nominees for this season’s Player and Young Player of the Year Awards.
Players at every club across the country have had their say, the votes have been counted and this year’s nominees AS CHOSEN BY THE PLAYERS for the Player and Young Player of the Year* are as follows:
Premiership Player of the Year
James Forrest Celtic
Ryan Kent Rangers
Callum McGregor Celtic
Alfredo Morelos Rangers
Young Player of the Year
Lewis Ferguson Aberdeen
Jake Hastie Motherwell
Ryan Kent Rangers
David Turnbull Motherwell
The 2019 Player of the Year nominations are split equally between both halves of the Old Firm.
Celtic are represented by Callum McGregor and James Forrest – who makes the shortlist for the second year running. Both have played a crucial part in Celtic’s push for an historic treble-treble with Forrest having his best ever season in front of goal with 22 goals all in for club and country.
Rangers Ryan Kent could do a double as he is nominated in both Player and Young Player categories while teammate Alfredo Morelos is up for Player of the Year, having been in the running for Young Player last season.
Joining Kent in the Young Player category are Motherwell duo David Turnbull and Jake Hastie. Both have had an amazing 2018/19 season with the Steelmen – although Hastie spent the first half of the season on-loan at Championship side Alloa before returning to Fir Park and being catapulted straight into the first team.
Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson has capped a fantastic debut season at Pittodrie by being nominated by his fellow pros for Young Player of the Season. Perhaps no surprise considering the footballing dynasty he comes from – Uncle Barry Ferguson won Young Player in 1999 and went on to lift Player in 2003.
The overall winners will be announced this Sunday, 5th May, at PFA Scotland’s annual Awards Dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow.
(*Please note – the Young Player of the Year Award is voted for from across ALL four of the SPFL’s leagues.)
