We are looking for a new Chairman following John Rankin’s decision to step down from the role at yesterday’s AGM.

John has been in the role for the last five-and-a-half years, but is stepping down to concentrate on other commitments including a coaching role at Hearts Academy as well as continuing to play with Queen of the South and, most importantly, spending more time with his family.

John said: “I’ve enjoyed my time as Chairman and it’s been a pleasure to watch the organisation grow in so many ways.

“I’d like to thank all the players for their backing with a special mention to the guys on the Management Committee for giving up their time, sharing their ideas and making my position a lot easier.

“I’d also like to thank Fraser Wishart and the staff at PFA Scotland for their support and guidance over the years. I will miss the role, but I feel the time is right for someone else to take over as Chairman and help PFA Scotland grow even further.”

PFA Scotland Chief Executive Fraser Wishart said: “On behalf of our members, I would like to thank John for the commitment and support he has given the Union over the years. From joining as a member as a young player, John has also served as a Club Representative at a number of clubs and an active Management Committee member.

“As Chairman for the last 5 and a half years, John has shown great leadership skills, speaking for the Union in the media and guiding the both the union and the Management Committee in terms of policy.

“John has also been willing to speak to players individually, offering confidential advice and mentoring many through difficult times during their careers.

“Personally, he has been of great support to me as CEO and I thank him for his unwavering backing.

“He is now moving into a new phase of his career in addition to playing football and I know that he will be huge success whether it be in coaching, management or outwith football.”

The Management Committee now have the responsibility for selecting a new Chairman and this will be done in the coming months – we’ll let you know outcome once it’s decided
