Have you started thinking yet about what you’re going to do when the time comes to hang up your boots?
For some that could be a few years off, for others it could be as soon as the end of this season.
No matter what category you fall in to, you should be preparing NOW for a career outside of football and what you need to do to make the transition as smooth as possible for you.
Not everyone knows what they want to do. Some will want to stay in football, but coaching jobs are limited, far too often shortlived and not everyone can be a Sir Alex Ferguson.
That is why it is crucial to prepare yourself for what lies ahead.
For some it will be a 9 to 5 job in an office or learning new skills like a trade and branching out within a business or even setting up your own.
There will be others who want to go back into education and re-train to go in a totally new direction.
Whatever it is you want to do, don’t wait until your 30+ and the contracts are drying up – you CAN do all of the above, or at the very least start making in-roads to them, while you are still playing.
You can also go to the Education section of the website where there is information on courses (coaching and otherwise), our Grants system, the FIFPro Online Degree and the upcoming Job4Player Project.
