Following recent high profile incidents in the game whereby the issue of concussion has been highlighted, FIFPro (the World Players Union) medical advisor Dr Vincent Gouttebarge has moved to provide his thoughts and expertise on the matter.

Within this response Gouttebarge, who was a former professional player himself, outlines why recent events have put at risk the health of the players involved.  Furthermore he assesses the problems associated with mild tramautic brain injury, analyses and compares research across other sports and highlights what guidelines should be adhered to within professional football.
